چکیده

In this paper, we study games with continuous action spaces and non-linear payoff functions. Our key insight is that Lipschitz continuity of the payoff function allows us to provide algorithms for finding approximate equilibria in these games. We begin by studying Lipschitz games, which encompass, for example, all concave games with Lipschitz continuous payoff functions. We provide an efficient algorithm for computing approximate equilibria in these games. Then we turn our attention to penalty games, which encompass biased games and games in which players take risk into account. Here we show that if the penalty function is Lipschitz continuous, then we can provide a quasi-polynomial time approximation scheme. Finally, we study distance biased games, where we present simple strongly polynomial time algorithms for finding best responses in L1, L 2 2, and L∞ biased games, and then use these algorithms to provide strongly polynomial algorithms that find 2/3, 5/7, and 2/3 approximations for these norms, respectively.

On Equilibrium Computation in Biased Games with Quadratic Penalties

Approximate Nash equilibria in anonymous games

We study from an algorithmic viewpoint anonymous games [Mil96, Blo99, Blo05, Kal05]. In these games a large population of players shares the same strategy set and, while players may have different payoff functions, the payoff of each depends on her own choice of strategy and the number of the other players playing each strategy (not the identity of these players). We show that, the intractabili...

Is Lipschitz Continuity Preserved under Sampled-Data Discretization?

Usually, given a continuous-time nonlinear model, a closed form solution for an exact discretization can not be found explicitly, originating the need of approximating discrete-time models. This note studies the preservation of the Lipschitz continuity under approximate discretizations.

A note on tamed Euler approximations

Strong convergence results on tamed Euler schemes, which approximate stochastic differential equations with superlinearly growing drift coefficients that are locally one-sided Lipschitz continuous, are presented in this article. The diffusion coefficients are assumed to be locally Lipschitz continuous and have at most linear growth. Furthermore, the classical rate of convergence, i.e. one–half,...

On equilibria for discontinuous games: Nash approximation schemes

For discontinuous games Simon and Zame (1990) introduced a new approach to the existence of equilibria. To obtain the required continuity, they convert the original discontinuous payoff function into an upper semicontinuous payoff correspondence; graphically, this corresponds to a “vertical interpolation” to close the discontinuity gap at the discontinuity points. The resulting payoff indetermi...
